Because the Flatpak is shed roof is pitched the wrong way
we need to watch out for these giant ice chips.

A house a few streets away from ours recently underwent a facelift. The plastic stained glass door replaced with a honey colored wood frame. The windows changed from casement to divided light casement. A new entryway pergola waits for droopy foliage to grow on it. Finally the owner painted the house trim a warm red and the body of the house a blue tinted green. House colors are tricky. It all looks nice as a paint swatches on paper but slather the latex onto the siding in the middle of a landscape filled with yellow green leafy trees and you see a different visual.
For the Flatpak we had to pick everything by swatch and then hold our breath as it was installed. For the exterior we slected a nuetral assortment of materials. The main goal driving our choices was to create a maintenance free exterior. Wood was out as were the powdercoat colors that would fade in a few years. We ended up with the barny combination of dark gray Cembonit, silver Galvalume, and patches of warm red and sparkly charcoal powdercoat.
I am getting the urge to change it but for now I will just alter the exterior on my computer.

- It took 2 years to build this first production version of the Flatpak House. I will post images as we set up home in our new digs.
China painting factories 07
- In March 07 I traveled to Shezhen, China to sort out production for a series of paintings. The factory painters were mostly young and all talented. Like 1980's art students they wore concert t-shirts, took frequent smoke breaks, and played alternative music very loud from a tinny CD player. All of the painters were either friends or relatives of one another. The factories themselves looked less warehouse and more apartment building. The office of the factory I visited had not only wall to wall carpeting but wall to ceiling. It was a plush environment. The Da Fen district, where all of the oil painting factories reside, is marked by a giant, (very communist) statue of a hand holding a paintbrush. Surreal doesn't quite express the region. The images shown do not depict the artwork I was working on, but rather, the artwork these factories all too often produce.
